Mathematical Modelling Group

Mission:

The activities of the group are devoted to the development of advanced methods in scientific computing, mathematical modelling and numerical simulation of complex phenomena in high-tech design, environment protection and computer science. The group participates in the research and development as well as high education of young experts in the engineering mathematics. The group makes part of the Department of Mathematics. The collaboration is developed with the well established universities and institutes worldwide as well as with industrial corporations worldwide.

News and events:

• The Zlámal seminar hosts the invited presentation on Dynamics of Curves and Surfaces and Their Applications given by M. Beneš on April 3, 2025.
• Participating in the international conference Modeling and Numerical Analysis of Nonlinear Phenomena held in Shiinoki Cultural Complex, Kanazawa, Japan on March 16-17, 2025 with two invited talks by M. Beneš and P. Pauš.
• Organizing the international conference Czech Japanese Seminar in Applied Mathematics 2025 in Liberec on August 25-29, 2025 in the collaboration with the Technical University of Liberec.
• The traditional Workshop on Scientific Computing 2025 with the student conference as an international meeting with participants from the Czech Technical University in Prague, the Technical University of Liberec, the Comenius University in Bratislava, the AGH Krakow, industry and many other institutions takes place at Děčín onsite and online on May 29 - 31, 2025.
• Co-organizing and participating in the international workshop LBM in Krakow 2025 on Lattice Boltzmann Methods organized on February 7, 2025 at the AGH Krakow, Poland
• Participating in the Joint Meeting of the NZMS, AustMS and AMS in Auckland, New Zealand, December 9-13, 2024, with the Keynote Lecture by M. Beneš in Session 29 Mathematics of nonlinear diffusion processes.
• The collaboration with the Kanazawa University, Japan in the student exchange continues by the stay of 2 bachelor, 2 master and 1 Ph.D. degree students in Applied Mathematics, spending a part of the winter semester 2024-25 in the Department of Mathematics. The students are accompanied by Prof. Masato Kimura, Prof. Hirofumi Notsu and Prof. Koya Sakakibara. Further expansion of common actvities in research and education is planned.
• Participating in the international congress The 11th International Conference on Multiscale Materials Modeling on September 22-27, 2024 in Prague
• New collaboration has been established during the stay of M. Beneš on invitation at the Universidad de Santiago de Chile, Departamento de Ingeniería Mecánica, Facultad de Ingeniería in the domain of free boundary problems in computational fluid mechanics. The invited lectures were given on Mathematical Modeling: Results and Challenges, Modeling Soil Freezing and Thawing, Modeling Operation and Ageing of LiIon Cells
• The collaboration with the Kanazawa University, Japan in the student exchange continues by the stay of our Ph.D. degree student Maneesh Narayanan, M.Sc. spending a part of summer semester 2023-24 at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the Kanazawa University.
• Participating in 24th International Conference on Computational Science 2024, July 2-4, 2024, Malaga, Spain by an invited lecture of J. Mikyška
• Mathematical Modelling Group organizes the visit of special guests from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Engineer Research and Development Center, Vicksburg, Mississippi. At this occasion the Workshop on Environmental Modeling: Fluid Flow and Transport Phenomena takes place on Wednesday June 12, 2024.
• The traditional Workshop on Scientific Computing 2024 with the student conference as an international meeting with participants from the Czech Technical University in Prague, the Technical University of Liberec, the Comenius University in Bratislava, the AGH Krakow, industry and many other institutions takes place at Děčín onsite and online on May 30 - June 2, 2024.
• Participating in the workshop High Performance Computing in Science and Engineering (HPCSE) 2024 on May 20 - 23, 2024 in the Beskydy Mountains
• The Rector's Day Soccer 2024 takes place on Tuesday May 14, 2024, 10:00 at the Ladronka Park.
• Lecture on Curve Dynamics and its Physical Applications was held on April 25, 2024 by M. Beneš in the seminar Physics Thursdays at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, CTU in Prague.
• Organizing the mini-symposium Interface motion in complex systems and participating in the international conference Algoritmy 2024 held on March 15-20, 2024 in High Tatra Mountains, Slovakia
• The collaboration with the Kanazawa University, Japan in the student exchange continues by the stay of 4 bachelor, 2 master and 1 Ph.D. degree students in Applied Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science, spending a part of summer semester 2023-24 in the Department of Mathematics
• Co-organizing and participating in the international workshop LBM in Krakow 2024 on Lattice Boltzmann Methods organized on February 9, 2024 at the AGH Krakow, Poland
• Lecture on Mathematics for Electrocardiology was held on January 12, 2024 by M. Beneš in the seminar Mathematics for Life at the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering, CTU in Prague.
• Experimental measurement of the aerosol nucleation in the deep well of the Broumov Monastery took place in September 2023 in the collaboration with the Clarkson University, Potsdam, USA, the Academy of Sciences.
• J. Mikyška was local organizer of International Conference on Computational Science 2023, July 3-5, 2023, Prague, Czech Republic
• The traditional Workshop on Scientific Computing 2023 with the student conference as a multilateral meeting under the auspices of the Czech Technical University in Prague, the Comenius University in Bratislava and AGH Krakow takes place at Děčín onsite and online on May 25-28, 2023.
• The Rector's Day Soccer 2023 took place on Wednesday May 10, 2023, 10:00 at the Ladronka Park.
• Participating in the international workshop ČVUT Battery Day 2023, April 20, 2023, Faculty of Electrical Engineering.
• New international Ph.D. student Maneesh Narayanan begins his studies with the Mathematical Modelling Group in March 2023, working on the motion of curves in space
• The collaboration with the Kanazawa University, Japan in the student exchange continues by the stay of 10 bachelor and master degree students in Applied Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science, spending a part of summer semester 2022-23 in the Department of Mathematics

• The Ph.D. student of the Meiji University, Tokyo, Japan Yusaku Shimoji is giving the talk on the Numerical Analysis for Various Hele Shaw Problems to the group on April 28, 2022.
• The Ph.D. student of the Meiji University, Tokyo, Japan Yusaku Shimoji is visiting the group for the month of April, 2022.
• The graduate student in Mathematical Engineering Niels Van der Meer was awarded by the price of the Learned Society of the Czech Republic for his research in Mathematical Modelling in Electrocardiology.
• The traditional Workshop on Scientific Computing 2022 with the student conference as a multilateral meeting under the auspices of the Czech Technical University in Prague, the Comenius University in Bratislava and AGH Krakow successfully takes place at Děčín onsite and online on May 26-29, 2022.
• Co-organizing and participating in the international workshop LBM in Krakow 2022 on Lattice Boltzmann Methods organized on February 4, 2022 by the AGH Krakow
